Metacognition and Questioning in the Primary Classroom: Practical ideas to develop pupils’ thinking and learning

Metacognition and Questioning in the Primary Classroom: Practical ideas to develop pupils’ thinking and learning

This course will explain the theory and principles of metacognition as they relate to primary teaching and learning.

Metacognition has been identified as a key factor in increasing pupils’ progress in the Teaching and Learning Toolkit.

The course will also provide delegates with a number of practical ideas to develop teacher and pupil questioning across a range of subjects. Effective questioning supports and develops metacognition, as well as underpinning school’s efforts to improve pupils’ spoken language skills and acquisition of vocabulary – a key aspect of the EIF 2019.

This course is suitable for primary teachers and for additional adults who support learning in the classroom or with individual pupils.

All the practical resources referred to during the session will be provided for delegates to take back into school to use in the classroom.
